Why birds hit glass
Birds can't see clear or reflective glass. They see reflected sky and trees, or plants on the other side, and fly straight into it. Research estimates that window collisions kill hundreds of millions of birds a year in the United States and around 25 million in Canada.
Bird-friendly film adds a pattern of small dots or lines to the outside of the glass. Spaced closely enough, the pattern tells birds the glass is solid, while people inside barely notice it. Guidelines such as CSA A460 recommend markers no more than 50 mm (2 in) apart, the "2 × 2 rule". [Confirm which standards our film meets.]
