PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) film contains millions of tiny liquid crystal droplets. With the power off, they sit in random directions and scatter light, so the glass looks frosted. Switch it on and an electric field lines the crystals up, letting light straight through, and the glass turns clear in a fraction of a second.
It's ideal for meeting rooms, executive offices, clinics, bathrooms and retail displays, and the frosted state doubles as a rear-projection screen. Busbars, transformers and remote controls are sold separately. Contact us to spec a complete system.

How smart PDLC film is made
PDLC is an electro-optical film: a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between two conductive films.

Conductive films
Two clear polyester films are coated with transparent conductive ITO.

Liquid crystal layer
Liquid crystals mixed with polymer are spread evenly between them and cured into droplets.

Seal & connect
Edges are sealed against moisture, and busbars are fitted for power.

Every film is tested for clarity when on, haze when off and switching response.
